I decided to quickly get down to blogging about the Famine before I conveniently forget, although I know this post will be more incoherent and possibly more incomplete than I would like. The experience of fasting for 30 hours was not entirely new to me and a few others but I certainly did not miss it enough to remember how stressful and draining it was. There were about 500 people who attended the event this year, people from all over Malaysia, a few from Singapore, and of all shapes and sizes. It was crazy packed. It was like a can of sardines (thank God we are not claustrophobic.). If we were to have sat in that place for any longer than 5 hours, the heat, humidity and the smell would’ve been enough to kill us all. Having Chrissy and Ju made the whole experience a lot sweeter, although I must say, they were the ultimate whiners. Ju cleverly decided to discuss food; mozzarella cheese sticks and salsa sauce, cream puffs, roti canai etc, at the 7th hour of our starvation period (as if the orchestras playing in our tummies weren’t good enough). But Chrissy was just pitiful. The poor girl was lost half the time, either deep in dreamland or desperately needed to be adopted (ask her why).

Frankly, I was looking forward to the highlight of the entire famine; the night concert, although I enjoyed Couple’s performance, but the other bands were not as ‘meroxing’ as I hoped. After the concert, the FBCians introduced Empire to Chrissy and Ju. While explaining the rules of the game to the girls, Step said “okay, you gotta think of nicknames for yourselves, such as Christine can be theSnowQueen and Ju thePsychoGirl.” :D ( I don’t remember how you reacted, refresh my memory please, chrissygirl.) Anyway, we played a few rounds and decided to call it a night. … Except Chrissy and I decided to stay up til 5am talking. *sweat* (why didn’t we bring out a watch?) We all got up at 6am. LOL.

So other than bearing with the hunger, we had to keep ourselves a.a.w.a.a.k.k.e. all through the following 12 hours. Before we all knew it, the fast was over, we SURVIVED 30 hours without food (!), and we ‘buka puasa’ feasting on chocolate chip muffins YUMM, soya milk, and some vitameal (not exactly the most appealing and appetizing thing tho). O.o

On a more serious note, learning about the children in crisis certainly made me feel like I’ve been living in a cave all these years and it has definitely opened my eyes to what’s really happening to the less fortunate. I have decided that I ought to stop feeling sorry for myself; stop being absorbed in my own selfish little world. I told myself that I would be happy no matter what, that my situation and my feelings were something that I could by and large have control over, and in comparison to the children in crisis I’m absolutely blessed.

Chrissy's discontented eyes.
